The evolution of paintball into the modern fast sport that we know today happened quite quickly in comparison to most other sports. The history of the paintball gun begins in the early 1970s, when it was used as a tool for marking cattle and trees.. In 1981, 12 friends played the 1st ever paintball game using these industrial paintball guns on a field measuring over One-hundred acres.
The idea for paintball was thought up by 3 friends named Hayes Noel, Bob Gurnsey and Charles Gaines.

fields allowed large groups of competitors to meet in one place to play,
and the business owners were pushed to develop new and exciting ways to
keep these paintballers happy. This need for innovation drove the
development of new playing styles and different types of games.. The biggest style of play change to come about because of the introduction of commercial fields was the “bunker-style” game. Smaller fields allowed players to get into the action much quicker, instead of having to stalk through the woods for Fifteen minutes before seeing another competitor. Also, players purchased more paintballs when they were in a constant firefight, which made the commercial fields more money. |
Today, commercial paintball fields are all over the place, but there are
still a large number of competitors that prefer playing paintball out in
the woods. While outlaw paintball is generally much cheaper to play, it
is also more problematic than paying to play at a commercial field.
Today-Paintball is a multi-million dollar sport played in many countries
around the world. Tournaments can pay up to 100,000 dollars in cash and
prizes.
