krav maga

history of krav maga

Krav Maga, in Hebrew means "contact fight", Krav Maga is the official system of Hand to Hand combat and self defense of the Israeli Defense Forces, the Israeli National Police and many other security services in Israel.

A tactical and practical system which teaches how to prevent, deal and overcome all kinds of attacks and violence. Krav Maga prepares the trainees in the subjects of self protection, self-defense, fighting and combat skills, as well as skills used to defend other people. Krav Maga was developed in Israel, under realistic conditions and demands.

The founder of Krav Maga was Imrich Sde or (Imi Lichtenfeld). He was born in Budapest in 1910. His father Samuel was originally  a wrestler and a circus acrobat, he later became a policeman and actually served for many years as Chief Detective Inspector. He became well known for his considerable arrest record, particularly of dangerous criminals.

Krav Maga is an evolving art that adapts to an ever changing world, both locally and globally, under the guidance of Chief Instructor Eyal Yanilov, and members of the Global Instructors team. As well as the obvious uses and benefits of Krav Maga for the military and law enforcement communities, everyone - whether they are male, female, young or old - across the world can feel safer and more confident  by developing their natural instincts for self defense with Krav Maga

The International Krav Maga Federation currently has local associations and affiliations in Israel, the  USA, Finland, Norway, France, Sweden, England, Brazil, Thailand and elsewhere around the world. It is used on a day to day basis by the Israeli Defense Forces including the special forces units and the Israeli police and security branches, and by many other elite units in the USA, South America, Europe, and throughout the world. The style has also become, as Imi Lichtenfeld sought to make it, a major source of civilian self defense instruction.
