pa kua

history of pa kua

Pa Kua came to us from the Taoist monasteries in the mountains of Northern China and was popularised by Tung Hai Chan who is said to have founded the art.

Pa Kua Chang is one of the main martial arts practiced in China. Pa Kua Chang is a young martial art compared to many others and is based on natural principles that come directly from ancient Chinese philosophy. There are important components to Pa Kua: Self-Defense and health. Both are essential elements to the full and complete development of the Pa Kua practitioner.

Pa Kua Chang means eight Diagrams Palm and is probably the most mysterious of all the Chinese Martial Arts. It is based upon the ancient Taoist I Ching (Book of Changes), divinatory system.

The movements of Pa Kua copy those of the mystical dragon, which the ancient Taoists viewed as a snake with wings, constantly coiling, twisting and circling.

Pa Kua training consists of the Circling Dragon Form, which has several levels, Pushing Hands, Chi Kung, self-defense and at advanced levels, weapons training as well.

The Pa Kua system is excellent for developing stamina, fitness, good health and a powerful self-defense.
