Quachita Baptist University
Ouachita Baptist University was named after the Ouachita River, which designates the eastern boundary of the college campus. Ouachita is a Caddo Indian word which means the "eastern boundary of our nation."
Ouachita Baptist University is situated on the banks of the Ouachita River in Arkadelphia, Arkansas. the college opened for the 1st session on September 6, 1886, and has operated continuously since then. The Red River Baptist Academy (formerly Arkadelphia Baptist High School) was repaired at a cost of six hundred dollars to become the first home of the college, and assets of about ten thousand dollars came to the school as a bonus for locating at Arkadelphia. Over ninety percent of the University's students defray a part of their educational costs through some form of financial aid. More than $18,000,000 in scholarships, grants, loans, and work-study jobs is awarded every school year. Quachita Baptist University is a member institution of the National collegiate athletic Association and offers the following intercollegiate sports: Men's Baseball, Basketball, Golf, Football, Soccer, Swimming and Tennis. Women's Basketball, cross Country, Softball, Soccer, swimming, Tennis and Volleyball. |
