Troy University

Troy University has a tradition of teaching excellence that dates to the founding of the university on Feb. 26, 1887 when an act of the Alabama state Legislature established State Normal School, Troy, as an institution to train teachers for Alabama’s schools.

The Normal College offered extension courses for teachers and granted teaching certificates until 1929, when the State Board of Education altered the charter of the school and renamed it Troy State Teacher’s College. The college moved to its present site in that same year.

In 1982, the Troy State University System was formed, as the campuses in Montgomery and Dothan were granted independent accreditation status. In April of 2004 the Board of Trustees voted to drop "State" from the University's name to better reflect the institution's worldwide mission.

Troy University offers the following NCAA sports:

Men's Baseball, Basketball, Cross Country, Football, Golf, Rodeo, Tennis and Track & field.

Women's Basketball, Cross country, Golf, Rodeo, Soccer, Softball, Tennis, Track & Field and Volleyball.

Performance enhancing drugs. Side effects.
