NCAA Membership Has Questions After Penn State
On-campus administrators are worried about the aftermath of the Penn State decision:
“So does the whole governing structure come into question?” said St. Joseph’s athletic director Don DiJulia, a former conference commissioner. “Maybe it should be changed, but we need to revisit the practice of the governance process if this vehicle is going to be used again.”
That review is already underway, and all indications are this process is unlikely to be used again in the near future. Given though that the representatives of the membership—in the form of the Division I Board of Directors and NCAA Executive Committee—signed off on the punishment, one quick response from the membership would be to start appointing to those leadership positions individuals who feel the same way about this type of emergency authority.
