LSU Vacates NCAA Title for Positive Test
Louisiana State University vacated the 2012 NCAA Women’s Outdoor Track and Field Championship after it was learned that sprinter Semoy Hackett tested positive for a banned substance. Hackett tested positive for methylhexaneamine, a stimulant found in nasal decongestants. The drug has been banned by many governing bodies and was added to the banned substance list in 2011-12.
The article by Sheldon Mickles adds up the points Hackett scored, but those were not enough to give the title to runner-up Oregon. LSU is vacating the title because it used an ineligible student-athlete during the championships, which means the team accomplishment is vacated. This includes the relay title Hackett was apart of, but not the individual titles won by any other LSU student-athletes.
The title is the fourth men’s or women’s outdoor title to be vacated since 2004. Three men’s titles were previously vacated for major violations, including recruiting violations at Arkansas and Florida State’s academic fraud scandal.
