Graduation Not Required for Graduate Transfer Exception
NCAA Education Columns generally do not include any jaw-dropping revelations, but one published today on the graduate transfer exception included a doozy. Specifically, graduation is not required:
Question No. 7: May a student-athlete who does not receive a baccalaureate degree but is accepted for enrollment in a graduate or professional school of an institution other than the institution he or she previously attended as an undergraduate be eligible to use the graduate one-time transfer exception?
Answer: Yes.
That means that schools with graduate programs that do not require a bachelor’s degree or schools with loose enough special admissions policies could start to screw with the transfer rules. I doubt that a school would put pressure on their graduate school to admit a sophomore, but a senior who is just a few classes shy of a degree or a junior is possible.
