DII West Texas A&M Coach Fired Over Unethical Conduct Violation
Division II West Texas A&M, home to the largest collection of artificial fields in North America has fired their all-time winningest football coach, Don Carthel on the eve of the season:
WT learned of a NCAA violation. The university would not specify about the specific incident in violation but did tell NewsChannel 10 it was a blatant violation, and they had no other choice in their course of action.
While News Channel 10’s report does not have specifics, this AP report says Carthel provided false or misleading information to NCAA investigators. That would be a blatant violation of Bylaw 10.1’s ethical conduct rules and would leave the school with no choice but to let Carthel go. The big remaining question at the moment is what was the NCAA investigating in Canyon, TX?
