Augustana College – South Dakota is a Lutheran-related liberal arts college located in a residential area in the south central part of the metropolitan city of Sioux Falls. It is the state’s largest private university, with a 100-acre tree-lined campus geographically divided into North Campus where most of the academic buildings are situated, and South Campus where the sports facilities are located. There are six student residences, 16 theme houses and five apartment complexes mostly lining the North campus perimeter.
Augustana offers 52 majors and pre-professional programs supplemented by internship, undergraduate research, study abroad and the Honors Program. The College employs 134 full-time and 50 part-time instructors teaching its more than 1,850 students, at a ratio of 1:12.About 81% of the 134 professors are holders of the highest degree in their respective disciplines.
Augustana College – South Dakota is accredited by The Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools and the South Dakota Department of Education, the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), and the National Association of Schools of Music. It is certified by the Council of Education of the Deaf (CED) and approved by the South Dakota Board of Nursing (SDBN), the Committee on Professional Training for the American Chemical Society (ACS) and the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). It is also affiliated with the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science (NAACLS (CLS/MT).
As of 2013 Augustana is ranked #460 out of 650 top schools. The US News & World Report in 2014 placed Augustana#3inthe Midwestern colleges ranking, classified it as a “more selective school” and a “Best Buy” school based on academic quality vis-à-vis attendance costs. The publication has also labeled the College a top tier baccalaureate college for the past 13 straight years. Augustana was featured in Peterson’s 440 Colleges for Top Students and was named a “Best Western College” by The Princeton Review. As part of its “Templeton Honor Roll” The Templeton Guide included Augustana in its list of 100 select colleges and universities nationwide while the Harvard Schmarvard: Getting Beyond the Ivy League to the College That is Best for You considered Augustana as one of its “top 100 outstanding (but under-appreciated) colleges.

Augustana College – South Dakota Athletics Department’s sport programs emphasize the principles of sportsmanship and fair play among student-athletes. Athletes are trained to set realistic goals and to work hard together as a team and to play clean to achieve their goals. Strict adherence to the rules and regulations prescribed by the NCAA and Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference are a must, and recruitment of potential team members is done in the most professional way.
It is the Athletic Department’s mission to bring out the best in its student-athletes by inculcating in them the values that will guide them to success and happiness in their everyday life.
Athletics Programs of Augustana College –South Dakota
The Athletic Programs of Augustana College – South Dakota are geared towards gender equality. Since 1980 the women athletes have been getting an equal footing with the male athletes of the College. Augustana joined the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) of NCAA Division II after the North Central Conference folded in 2008.
There are 234 men and 128 women of Augustana who are playing varsity sports. The men’s varsity sports program consists of football, baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, wrestling, and track and field. On the other hand, the women’s varsity sports program includes soccer, softball, volleyball, tennis, basketball, golf, and track and field.

The Augustana Vikings of Augustana College – South Dakota has won 22 NSIC championships since 2008, with the women’s cross-country topping the list, followed closely by men’s cross-country, women’s tennis and women’s golf.
Augustana finished second in the Division II wrestlers championship in 2004-2005 and again in 2009-2010.Recent national championships were also won in the women’s cross-country (2011) and men’s indoor track and field (2012) categories. Individual national champions from 1979 to 2011 included wrestling, women’s indoor track and field, women’s outdoor track and field, men’s indoor track and field, and men’s outdoor track and field.
