Bethany College Kansas, established in 1881 and located in Lindsborg, Kansas, is a private liberal arts institution. The college is affiliated with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Bethany College’s academic programs are divided into the following departments, with majors in Humanities, Education, Social Sciences, Sciences, and Fine Arts and minors in Business, Theater and more. There are also six pre-professional programs in medicine, physical therapy, law and more, as well as teacher certification programs. The college emphasizes education out of the classroom and offers internships for credit. Students are able to earn academic credit towards their degree by taking up an internship or job shadowing for one semester. The Athletics Department at Bethany College Kansas has four main goals: to work together, the strive for excellence, to advance team progress, and to motivate student-athletes in both academics and athletics. The department provides athletic training, sports medicine, and academic support to all student-athletes.
The main athletic facility at Bethany College Kansas is the Anderson Athletic Complex. The complex includes the Lindstrom Football Field, the D.L. Anderson Memorial Track, the E.T. Andersen Tennis Complex, the Philip Anderson Baseball Field, outdoor handball courts, a volleyball court, and practice fields. In addition, there is also the Ray D. Hahn Gymnasium that is equipped with physical education facilities and the athletic training department. There is also the Stoble-Gibson Gym and the Hahn Gym, a weight-training room, cardio room and a large court.

Varsity sports at Bethany College Kansas include men’s basketball, cross country, golf, baseball, football, track and field, tennis, and soccer, as well as women’s cheerleading, cross country, soccer, dance, tennis, track and field, volleyball, basketball and softball. There are no varsity sports, club sports or organized outdoor recreational activities offered as alternatives for students who cannot participate in varsity sports.

Bethany’s varsity sports teams are known as the Swedes or the Terrible Swedes. The Terrible Swedes are members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and compete in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference. The Terrible Swedes seeks to achieve excellence in both academics and athletics and strive to maintain high grades and win intercollegiate championships.

Scholarships at Bethany College Kansas recognize academic achievement, leadership potential and talent. All students applying for scholarships must complete and submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Academic scholarships are awarded to incoming students, either freshmen or transfer. These scholarships include the Avid Award, the Phi Theta Kappa Award, the Minorities in Education Award, and the Honors Program Scholarships. For students who are minoring in Servant Leadership, Sustainability, and Global Citizenship, the Bethany Pathway Award are available. There are also fine arts awards for students in music, theater and art. Bethany Grants and Supplemental Grants are offered to adult students who do not qualify for the scholarships that are reserved for incoming freshmen. In addition, there are also athletic awards for students who participate in varsity sports. The value of these awards is determined by the head coach.
