What is my GPA?
Your GPA is your Grade Point Average. This is a measurement of the grades you receive for your high school courses. The GPA is put on a 4.0 scale and each letter grade you receive has a different numerical value: A is worth 4 points, B is 3 points, C is 2 points, D is 1 point, and F receives no credit. When you average your grades for each term, you have your GPA.
GPA is one of the main requirements athletes need to meet in order to be eligible to compete in NCAA and NAIA sports. For the NCAA, you need to have at least a 2.0 GPA in the required core courses for Division 1 and 2. You can also use the NCAA Sliding Scale to compare the necessary GPA and test scores in order to be eligible. For the NAIA, you need to have a minimum overall GPA of at least 2.0, but there are no specified required courses.
If you’re able to earn and maintain a high GPA, not only will more college coaches be interested in you, but you also have a great opportunity to earn some academic scholarship money.
