Athletics Department of Arkansas Tech University
The athletic department of Arkansas Tech University oversees the physical well being not only of the varsity players, but all the students, faculty and staff of the university. Intercollegiate sports, intramurals and recreational sports, regardless of level of ability, and fitness programs including Zumba and yoga, are encouraged and supported. In line with these programs, Arkansas Tech upgrades its sports and fitness facilities. The Tech Field which is the home of baseball games has a new grandstand built aside from the clubhouse, locker rooms, and dugouts with improved appearance and functionality. Other facilities include Chartwells Women’s Sports Complex that contains the Buerkle Field for football, a softball field and several tennis courts, the Chamberlayne Golf Course and the Lion’s Den Golf Course for golf activities, and the Hull Building which has a weight room, sports medicine training area.

Arkansas Tech University offers full support to their athletes, providing not only the logistics, but the equally important moral back-up. Inspiring and motivating the athletes to excel in both sports and academics. Men’s sports cover basketball, basketball, football and golf while the women’s contingent participate in basketball, cross country, golf, softball, tennis, and volleyball intercollegiate competitions. Representing the university at prestigious tournaments like the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II and the Great American Conference is a great honor and privilege for the student-athletes.
OFFICIAL SPORTS TEAM: Arkansas Tech University Wonder Boys, Golden Suns
The official sports team of Arkansas Tech University is composed of the Wonder Boys for men’s and the Golden Suns for the women’s division. The school and the students are always proud of their athletes as the varsity players not only achieved a consistent higher win to loss ratio in tournaments they participate in but they also bagged team and individual honors in the process. The Wonder Boys baseball contingent has produced All-Americans and NCAA All-Region selection players. Men’s basketball has been successfully crowned on 4 consecutive conference championships; the Golden Suns basketball team captured the 2013 Great American Conference title. The 2012 Great American Conference runner-up honors in golf, and the 2013 title for the same sport’s governing body for volleyball.

Athletic scholarships are generously awarded to students at Arkansas Tech University in addition to other scholarships, grants and loans that assist students in their quest for a college degree. The Lambert Resimont Memorial Scholarship, an endowed athletic scholarship, is given to a graduate assistant who excels in basketball and academics, while a similar type of scholarship, the John E. Tucker Memorial Scholarship and the “Piney” Page Memorial Athletic Scholarship select from football playing graduate assistants. Incoming freshmen can take advantage of several competitive and prestigious scholarships that include the Distinguished Scholars, Second Century Scholars and the Collegiate Scholars. Transfer students can also apply for Transfer Scholars. The university is thankful to public and private donors that help sustain Arkansas Tech’s commitment to provide educational access to as many students as it can.
