Athletics Department of Austin Peay State University
The athletics department of Austin Peay University provides educational and competitive opportunities at the NCAA Division I level for student-athletes. The athletics program aims to balance athletics and academics, in order to help students become fulfilled individuals and responsible citizens. Austin Peay State University believes that athletic experience develops confidence, loyalty, sportsmanship and team work that would later exhibit leadership qualities and discipline.

Austin Peay State University athletics assumes a big role in the development of the university. Athletic facilities were built to support the athletic needs of students, and these include the Winfield Dunn Health and Physical Education Building, Dave Aaron Arena and Dave Loos Court, Memorial Health Building “The Red Barn”, Cheryl Holt Field, Raymond C. Hand Park, Governors Stadium, Morgan Bros. Soccer Field, Governors Indoor Tennis Center and Outdoor Tennis Courts, Foy Fitness and Recreation Center, Swan Lake Golf Course, Links at Novadell and Clarksville Country Club.
Athletic Programs of Austin Peay State University
The sports program of Austin Peay State University includes men’s and women’s sports. Male athletes participate in baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf and tennis. Female athletes are into basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, track and field and volleyball. Participating and supporting the programs are spirit squads and its own marching band.
OFFICIAL SPORTS TEAM: Austin Peay Governors and Lady Govs
Austin Peay State University varsity teams compete in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC). They are known as the “Governors”.
The Austin Peay State University football team participate in the Pioneer Football League. The team left the league at the conclusion of the 2005 season and rejoined in 2007.
The Govs and Lady Govs have a long and distinguished tradition of excellence. It was Coach Dave Loos who led Austin Peay State University teams to three NCAA tournament berths, and became a respected and coach-mentor in the conference. The Governors and the Lady Govs represent the university in Clarksville University in intercollegiate athletics fielding 14 teams and compete in NCAA Division 1.
