The Athletics Department at Boston University has extensive programs and modern facilities for student-athletes who wish to compete professionally or students who would like to get active.
In addition to varsity sports, the athletics department also offers 16 intramural sports. Every semester, almost 700 fitness and recreation classes are offered, both credit and non-credit, for those who are interested. Athletic facilities include a track and tennis center, the Agganis Arena for hockey and basketball, as well as a fitness and recreation center with a pool and indoor track.
The student-athletes at Boston University are committed to both their studies and their sports, and are actively involved in making their community a better place. The athletics department encourages academic excellence and service – the average cumulative GPA for a Boston Terrier is 3.0, and all together approximately 4,500 hours were put into community service.
Athletic Programs at Boston University
Boston University offers 9 men’s and 12 women’s varsity sports and all teams compete in the NCAA. Varsity sports include basketball, cross country, rowing, ice hockey, swimming, soccer, track, lacrosse, field hockey, tennis, wrestling, ice hockey, golf, and dance. Approximately 600 student-athletes participate in the various athletic programs, competing to the best of their ability. In addition, over 1,000 students participate in 36 club sports which include alpine ski racing, equestrian, ballroom dancing, Jiu Jitsu, and many more.

The Boston Terriers compete in three NCAA conferences: the Patriot League, Hockey East, and Colonial Athletic Association. The men’s hockey team is the most notable team, holding 5 national championships. The men and women’s soccer, women’s lacrosse and field hockey also demonstrate excellence in the field. The rowing team has also won national championships in the past. The Boston Terriers are composed of dedicated student-athletes who continuously play for the win.
