What if I am an international student athlete?
The recruiting process tends to be more complicated for international athletes. There are different academic and eligibility requirements they need to meet in order to travel to the U.S. and compete for a college team. As an international athlete, you need to make sure that you take the right standardized tests, like the SAT, ACT, and TOEFL, and that your secondary school courses meet the core course requirements.
In order to get recruited as an international athlete, you’ll need to put a lot of work into contacting college coaches in the U.S. Coaches here do not have the budget to travel internationally to see an athlete in person. So having a great recruiting video is also essential to your ability to be recruited. You should also have full game tape available if a coach requests it.
Attending camps is also very important–before you spend a bunch of money on registration and travel, make sure you have been in contact with the coaches and that they ‘ve seen your video. Coaches go to camps to watch players they’re already familiar with, and don’t usually watch players they don’t know. International athletes can find great opportunities in the U.S. if they’re willing to work to find them!
